Reminder: UF E-Board Nominations Close Tuesday, Oct. 7 at noon

As most faculty know, our UF is an independent collective bargaining agent and the exclusive representative of all faculty in 4CD, and we are managed by an elected Executive Board and President. We have a few unelected employees, such as Lorena Cortez, our full-time office administrator extraordinaire, but most of our E-Board representatives are elected for two-year terms by the membership.

According to our UF Elections Handbook , the UF will make an announcement in its newsletter and will include a nomination form and a timeline for submitting candidacy. Faculty who want to submit their candidacy must deliver a completed nomination form to the UF, including signatures from ten UF members (or when using an electronic nomination form, the names and email addresses of ten UF members who have agreed to support the candidate’s nomination), before the posted deadline.

We currently have Executive Board terms set to expire at the end of this semester, including the following current board members:

Jennifer Ounjian (FT CCC) Bridgitte Schaffer (FT DVC)

Mary Johnson (PT CCC) Chris Longenecker (FT DVC)

Sherry Sharufa (FT CCC) Luis Morales (FT LMC)

Katrina Keating (FT DVC)

In addition to these expiring terms there are two FT vacant seats at DVC, one PT vacant seat at DVC, and one PT vacant seat at LMC.  All incumbents listed above have indicated that they are interested in remaining in their positions for another term.

Per our normal procedures, we are putting out a call for nominations for full-time and part-time representatives from each site (DVC, CCC and LMC).  Any faculty members who would like to submit their candidacy for any of these open positions should deliver a completed nomination form  (by email or on paper nomination form to the UF Office - attached) prior to noon on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.

If we have multiple candidates for any position after the nomination period is complete, we will hold forums and an election. If you have questions about the duties and responsibilities attached to any position, please contact Lorena in the UF Office at 925-680-1771 or uf@uf4cd.org, or you may ask any current E-Board representative, or reply to this email. You must be a member of United Faculty to run for any UF position. Nomination forms can be emailed to Lorena as well (uf@uf4cd.org).

Synchronous Evaluation Training Workshops on Zoom: Tues. 10/30/25 5pm

Every semester UF provides synchronous evaluation training (via zoom) in addition to the training video we offer in the UF canvas module. Live training provides an opportunity to ask questions and get a little more explanation on the things that matter most to you. Full and Part-time faculty from any 4CD college can attend any of the trainings district wide. We will continue to add more synchronous trainings in the coming weeks, but here’s what’s available now. Remember these trainings count as flex, so be sure to register through GROW.

There is an online synchronous training today!

EEO Representative Training for Faculty Hiring Committees (Full-Time Fac.)

The District Human Resources Department is again offering Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Representative training, live on Zoom Wednesday, October 8, 2025, from 1:00-4:00pm.

The training will be synchronous and interactive, led by an attorney from the firm of Liebert, Cassidy, Whitmore, and by Jeffrey Michels, Associate Vice Chancellor of HR. The training will cover the practical issues connected to being an EEO Representative, review the process for hiring faculty at 4CD, discuss best practices in equitable hiring, and work through some scenarios together.   REGISTER FOR the EEO TRAINING HERE

How to Get Hired in a California Community College Webinar: 10/6/25 7pm.

Every first Monday of the month the District Human Resources Department offers a one-hour workshop for anyone interested in job opportunities at a California Community College (including pathways to promotion for current employees). The program covers strategies for finding job opportunities, writing applications and interviewing, and there will be time at the end for Q & A. The workshop is free and open to everyone. More than 175 community members have attended so far with several reporting back that they used strategies discussed in the workshop to help them get second interviews and/or jobs! The next workshop is Monday,  October 6, 2025, at 7:00pm on Zoom. Here is the zoom-link: https://bit.ly/4CDHowToGetHired

THAT’S A GOOD QUESTION!

What is AB 1111? What is the difference between FTEF and FTES? What is the FON? What is Parity? We could go on and on with these kinds of questions…

UF knows that there are always a lot of acronyms, terms and words thrown around in different meeting spaces and that sometimes it’s hard to keep up with what everything means. That is why we have created a Glossary of Terms to help you understand all of these terms. We invite you to peruse the list and if you have a word, term, or acronym that you would like us to add to our list, please reach out and let us know at uf@uf4cd.edu
